As protests against anti-Black racism and racial violence continue to take place in the United States, Canada, and countries around the world, OPC wants to express solidarity with the Black community and denouncing anti-Black racism and discrimination in all its forms.
On behalf of the OPC community, let me repeat in the strongest terms possible our condemnation of anti-Black racism and discrimination.
The continuing incidents of violence against Black and racialized communities continue to create an enormous burden of pain, fear, and anger on these communities, which are also disproportionately experiencing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic as recently announced by Dr. Tam.
We acknowledge that these events are unfolding in a context where Black people and racialized communities in Canada and around the world continue to experience systemic injustices. And so, we join in demanding justice and working toward lasting change in our society and in our community and in our profession.
Racism is not just an issue for racialized communities, it impacts all of us and thus is our collective responsibility to purposely work to create inclusive spaces and actively support each other. We can always do better, and we must remain committed to actively listening, open in our dialogue and resolute in our efforts to implement change.
We are committed to providing an inclusive environment for everyone OPC community and the people and communities we serve.
Sincerely with both sadness and hope,
Amy McGrath, E.D OPC Program
